Pramono: Jakarta Government Acts Swiftly to Tackle Flooding

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that his administration is moving swiftly to address rising water levels in the Ciliwung River, which have caused flooding in several areas of South Jakarta and East Jakarta.

"...we in Jakarta have prepared ourselves for that,"

The increase in water levels is the result of upstream inflow from Katulampa Floodgate, which has been on Alert Level 3 for the past 15 hours. Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government has been on standby to anticipate the incoming water.

"The key issue is that Katulampa has been on Alert Level 3 since yesterday, about 15 hours ago, and we in Jakarta have prepared ourselves for that," Pramono said while visiting Kelinci Roci Park on Jalan Kaliabang, Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Friday (1/30).

To manage the increased water flow in the Ciliwung River, the city government has taken steps to ease pressure by opening several floodgates along the river.

"Manggarai has also seen rising water levels, and inevitably, several areas that were previously unaffected have had to be opened so the water can flow to the sea," Pramono explained.

He said the measures are expected to ease pressure along the Ciliwung River, adding that all floodgates and river control facilities are operating optimally.

"However, sea levels are still relatively high, so water from Katulampa, which began flowing in at around 9:10 AM, is now being gradually pushed toward the sea," he added.
